Saskatoon Basil Vinaigrette

Packed with flavour, nutrients and antioxidants, Saskatoon berries are unique to western Canada, and western and north-central US. Saskatoons have been consumed by the indigenous aboriginals of Canada for their nutritional & medicinal benefits, and the name Saskatoon derives from the Cree word Misâskwatômina.

I love getting my Saskatoon berries from Our Family Farm, just outside of Calgary.

This vinaigrette has a lovely combination of sweet & sour flavours, and will upgrade your salads in just a few minutes..!

Prep time: 5 mins
Makes 3/4 cup

Nut free Gluten free

  • 1/2 cup fresh Saskatoon berries*
  • 1/4 cup basil leaves

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blend into a smooth consistency.

* If using frozen berries, thaw before blending. You can also substitute Saskatoons for other berries in the recipe.
