This is a perfect quick recipe for a lovely summer (or spring) day; a refreshing beverage, with hints of floral kisses.. enjoy this drink as is, or add a splash (or more..) of gin for a quick “fancy” libation
Prep time: 5 mins
- 4 cups cold water
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1/4 cup rose water
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp cane sugar
- 1 tsp rose petals for garnish (optional)
Place all ingredients except for rose petals in a blender and blend well.
Strain through a fine sieve.
Serve chilled or over ice.
Garnish with rose petals.
Rose water can be found in international sections of most large grocery stores, or in specialty shops.
You can use fresh mint instead of basil, for another delicious option.
For a great boost of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, add 1-2 frozen spirulina cubes – I love SpiraVeg‘s tasteless and odourless spirulina..!
My first encounter with spirulina was on my first visit to India in 2010. I was living in a small town nearby a spirulina farm, where many travellers like myself have made this town their temporary home. I kept meeting people that were raving about this amazing superfood to my ears, “it’s so rich in minerals and vitamins..” it sounded promising.. “Add it to your smoothies” they said, and I remember even seeing some little kids eating it straight out of the bag.. but I just couldn’t get over the “fishy” flavour and scent.. it was so overpowering, and however I tried to incorporate it into my diet, it was just too fishy..
I was so pleased to find an amazing local company in Calgary, that provides fresh and frozen spirulina products that are completely tasteless & odor free – find more info about them HERE
Feel like a quick summer cocktail? add a splash (or more) of gin..!
